What Is a Wheel Alignment?
When brand-new vehicles leave the factory, their wheels are positioned at certain angles to ensure that whoever drives them can enjoy optimal performance. First off, the tires sit perpendicular to the ground instead of leaning inward or outward when viewed from the front. Also, the front of the wheels point straight ahead and are parallel to each other when viewed from above. Lastly, instead of tilting forward or backward, the steering axis should be at 90 degrees from the road surface when viewed from the side. These parameters are each called camber, toe, and caster, and every Kia model has specifications that must be met. When these angles go out of whack, a wheel alignment can bring them back to their original settings to enable reliable cruises around town.
How It’s Done
Please contact us at your earliest convenience if you’d like to schedule an appointment to get your Sportage or Sorento’s wheels aligned. When you arrive, our technicians will hook up your vehicle to an alignment machine. After it’s been properly positioned on the alignment rack, they will attach sensors or cameras on each of the wheels for an accurate reading of the relevant angles. Once a measurement has been taken, a report will be printed showing the severity of the misalignment. If you give us the go-ahead to proceed with the alignment, the same machine will adjust the camber, caster, and toe of your vehicle’s wheels, returning them to factory specifications for your future trips to Lincoln Park.
Warning Signs
Although the recommended service interval for wheel alignments is every 12,000 miles or once a year, your Kia Telluride or Carnival may need the service sooner if it’s showing the following red flags. A telltale sign that your car needs an alignment as soon as possible is uneven tire wear. This happens because friction is not applied uniformly when you’re traversing Interstate 55 and other roads. You may also experience your vehicle pulling to the left or right even when you’re holding the steering wheel in its upright position. Conversely, you may have to steer slightly to the left or right in order to move forward in a straight line. Feeling vibrations on the steering wheel is another symptom to look out for.
